Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) \u2013 Rajarata University of Sri Lanka & Bauddhaloka Foundation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 2025, the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, through its Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Management, entered into a six-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Bauddhaloka Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This collaboration focuses on advancing archaeological research, excavation, and heritage management in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka, particularly in the Mullaitivu and Vavuniya districts. The partnership brings together academic expertise and institutional support to investigate and conserve four significant archaeological sites, while promoting research, training, and knowledge dissemination at both national and international levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this initiative, Rajarata University leads the scientific and academic components of the project, while the Bauddhaloka Foundation provides financial and infrastructural support, ensuring a sustainable and impactful contribution to Sri Lanka\u2019s cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RUSL Delegation Strengthens Academic and Cultural Ties with Hangzhou City University, China<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A delegation from Rajarata University of Sri Lanka (RUSL) successfully completed an academic mission to Hangzhou City University (HCU), China, from November 3rd to 7th, 2025<\/strong>, marking an important milestone in international collaboration, digital heritage innovation, and cultural exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation\u2014Prof. Samantha Ekanayeke<\/strong>, Prof. Nuwan Abeywardana<\/strong>, and Mr. Thilanka Siriwardana<\/strong> engaged in a series of meetings, field visits, and technical discussions aimed at advancing joint research, student mobility, and digital cultural heritage programs between the two universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MoU Discussions and Academic Collaboration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussions between RUSL and HCU finalised key components of a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)<\/strong>. Both institutions agreed on collaborative frameworks involving:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Student exchanges<\/strong> at undergraduate and postgraduate levels<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Joint fieldwork, exhibitions, and training programmes<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Short courses<\/strong> delivered by visiting academics<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Research cooperation<\/strong> in digital archaeology, Buddhist heritage, ceramics, and irrigation systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Technological capacity building<\/strong>, including 3D digitisation and digital applications for heritage documentation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    HCU also agreed to host four RUSL undergraduates from the Department of Archaeology and Heritage  annually, offering training stipends and accommodation support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Visit to the Beijing\u2013Hangzhou Grand Canal Conservation Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The delegation visited the Conservation Centre of the Hangzhou Section of the Grand Canal<\/strong>, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discussions focused on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Large-scale cultural landscape management<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Heritage zoning, buffer regulation, and HIA procedures<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Digital monitoring technologies, including drones, mobile reporting apps, and 24\/7 surveillance systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Water quality management and ecological conservation<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Public heritage engagement through performances, exhibitions, and national cultural park initiatives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      The visit provided valuable insights into China\u2019s advanced heritage management models<\/strong>, offering learning opportunities relevant to Sri Lanka\u2019s heritage sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Tour of the Digital Museum \u2013 School of Art and Archaeology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
