The International Research Forum on Ancient Water Management Systems in Sri Lanka: Integrating Traditional Knowledge for Sustainable Development<\/strong>, organized by the Department of Archaeology & Heritage Management, Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, according to the concept of Prof. Nuwan Abeywardana<\/strong> (Head of the department), was successfully held on March 11, 2025, <\/strong>atuniversity premises of Mihintale. This forum brought together experts, academics, and students to explore Sri Lanka\u2019s ancient irrigation heritage<\/strong> and its role in modern sustainability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was honored by Dr. P.H.G. Janaka Pushpakumara<\/strong>, Acting Vice-Chancellor of RUSL, as the Chief Guest<\/strong>, while Prof. Dr. Wiebke Bebermeier<\/strong> (Freie University Berlin, Germany) delivered the Keynote Speech<\/strong>, highlighting the impact of human activities on environmental changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forum featured insightful presentations from Chair Prof. Chandana Withanachchi, Prof. Nuwan Abeywardana, Prof. Manoj Samarathunga, Eng. (Dr.) Chandana Jayawardana, Dr. Gamini Wijesuriya, Dr. J.M.S.B. Jayasundara, and Dr. Nalaka Geekiyanage<\/strong>, enriching discussions on traditional water management and sustainability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We sincerely thank Prof. E.M.S. Ekanayake <\/strong>(Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities), <\/strong>all otherDeans, Heads, and academics,as well as the Registrar, Bursar <\/strong>and other non-academics of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka for their support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Special appreciation also goes to Emeritus<\/strong> Prof. C.M. Madduma Bandara and Prof. Thilak Wijethunga<\/strong> for their valuable insights. Dr. A.S.T. Rajapakse<\/strong> is also acknowledged for expertly moderating the forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event strengthened Sri Lanka\u2019s sustainability efforts by integrating traditional and modern water management, fostering interdisciplinary research, and highlighting heritage-based tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
