Today marks a truly transformative moment for the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, as we officially entered into a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bauddaloka Foundation. This landmark partnership represents a major step forward in strengthening our research capacity and enhancing student development within the faculty.
Under the terms of this agreement, the Bauddaloka Foundation will fully fund all archaeological research activities in the Northern Province for the next five years. This generous support opens unprecedented opportunities for our academic community—empowering staff and students to engage in advanced field research, contribute to national heritage studies, and broaden scholarly impact at both local and international levels.
This collaboration reinforces our long-term vision to elevate the Department of Archaeology & Heritage Management into a leading center for research excellence, professional training, and heritage development in Sri Lanka. Together, we look forward to shaping new knowledge, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering meaningful contributions to the nation’s historical landscape.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Janaka Pushpakumara and the Registrar for their continuous administrative support in making this collaboration a reality. Our sincere thanks also go to our Dean, Prof. E. M. S. Ekanayake, whose unwavering encouragement and visionary leadership have guided us throughout this journey.
Our gratitude is further extended to Prof. P. B. N. Abeywardana, Head of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Management, FSSH, for his steadfast guidance and commitment.
A special appreciation goes to Mr. Chandima Bandara Ambanwala, Senior Lecturer, for initiating this vital partnership, and to Mr. Thilanka Manoj Siriwardana, Senior Lecturer, for efficiently coordinating every step of the process to bring this MoU to fruition.
