
The International Research Forum on Ancient Water Management Systems in Sri Lanka: Integrating Traditional Knowledge for Sustainable Development, organized by the Department of Archaeology & Heritage Management, Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, according to the concept of Prof. Nuwan Abeywardana (Head of the department), was successfully held on March 11, 2025, atuniversity premises of Mihintale. This forum brought together experts, academics, and students to explore Sri Lanka’s ancient irrigation heritage and its role in modern sustainability.
The event was honored by Dr. P.H.G. Janaka Pushpakumara, Acting Vice-Chancellor of RUSL, as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Dr. Wiebke Bebermeier (Freie University Berlin, Germany) delivered the Keynote Speech, highlighting the impact of human activities on environmental changes.
The forum featured insightful presentations from Chair Prof. Chandana Withanachchi, Prof. Nuwan Abeywardana, Prof. Manoj Samarathunga, Eng. (Dr.) Chandana Jayawardana, Dr. Gamini Wijesuriya, Dr. J.M.S.B. Jayasundara, and Dr. Nalaka Geekiyanage, enriching discussions on traditional water management and sustainability.
