
Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research articles to the Journal of Tropical Environment (JOTEM). All submissions must follow the format and structure provided below to ensure consistency and quality in the review and publication process.
1. Language and Formatting
- Language: English
- Font: Times New Roman
- Font Size:
- Title: 16 pt
- Headings: 14 pt
- Body Text: 12 pt
- Word Limit: Maximum 5000 words (including references, tables, and figures)
- File Format: Microsoft Word (doc or .docx)
- Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages.
- Line space: 1.5
- Margins: left 1.5 inches and 1 inch for each side
- Layout: Manuscripts should be clearly structured, well-edited, and formatted for easy review.
2. Manuscript Structure
Please format your article using the following components:
Title
- Should be relevant, concise, and reflect the core content of the article.
Author Details
- Include the full name, educational qualifications, institutional affiliation, designation, email address, and contact number of each author.
- Clearly mark the corresponding author with an asterisk (*).
- A completed Author Declaration Form (Form No. 01) must be submitted separately.
Abstract (200-250 words, in a single paragraph)
The abstract must summarize the following:
- Introduction – Brief background and research aim
- Methodology – Outline of the research approach
- Results – Key findings
- Discussion – Summary of main interpretations
- Conclusion – General conclusion and significance
- Keywords – Include 5 keywords that reflect the core content of the article.
3. Main Sections of the Manuscript
Introduction
Establish the context, research gap, aim, objectives, and (if applicable) hypothesis. Cite recent and relevant literature. Mention the geographical focus if field-based.
Methodology
Explain data collection, sampling, analysis techniques, and any tools or software used. Present the methods clearly to enable reproducibility.
Results
Present findings in a clear and objective manner. Use tables, charts, or figures where applicable.
Discussion
Interpret the findings in relation to the research questions, objectives, and existing literature. Highlight the contributions and limitations of the study. Future research directions may also be included.
Conclusion
Summarize the main findings and state whether the research achieved its objectives. Do not introduce new information here.
Acknowledgment
(Optional) Acknowledge individuals or institutions that supported the research, either financially or otherwise.
Bibliography
Use the APA style consistently. All cited figures, tables, or illustrations taken from other sources must be properly referenced with their original publication.
4. Artwork and Figures
Please adhere to the following charts, images, and illustrations:
- Image Format: JPEG (for photographs), PNG, or TIFF
- Graphical Format: Use applications that preserve quality (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Illustrator)
- Placement: Embed figures/tables within the manuscript where they are referenced (not at the end)
- Captions: All figures and tables must have appropriate titles and sources (if applicable)
- Resolution:
- Images: Minimum 300 dpi
- Line art: Minimum 800 dpi
- External Files: If figures are created in external software (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint), submit them as separate files with a placeholder in the text (e.g., “[Insert Figure 1 here]”)
5. Additional Formatting Guidelines
Abbreviations
- All abbreviations must be clearly defined at their first occurrence in the text.
Example: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) - Use abbreviations consistently throughout the manuscript once introduced.
Non-English Words
- Scientific names (e.g., species names) should be written in italics.
*Example: Ficus religiosa - Sinhala or other non-English words should be placed within inverted commas.
Example: the term “mahajana weda gedara” refers to…
Footnotes
- The use of footnotes is discouraged.
- Authors are advised to incorporate relevant information directly into the main text wherever possible.
6. Submission Process
Submission Method: Email the completed manuscript to jote_doem@ssh.rjt.ac.lk
Submission Deadline: On or before the announced closing date.
7. Review and Publication Process
- All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure academic quality and objectivity.
- The Editor-in-Chief will communicate directly with the corresponding author regarding the progress and status of the manuscript.
- Upon acceptance, authors will receive galley proofs for final review and approval before publication.
- Finalized articles will be published in the ‘Previous Issues’ section of the journal website.
8. Copyright and Disclaimer
- The authors retain copyright for their articles.
- The Editorial Board is not responsible for views expressed or errors contained within published articles.
- Submission of a manuscript implies that the work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal.
