Disaster Management Field Visit – 19th March 2026
An insightful and interactive field visit was successfully conducted at the Disaster Management Center, Anuradhapura, focusing on disaster management practices in the Malwathu Oya River Basin. The session provided students with valuable practical exposure and a deeper understanding of real-world Disaster risk reduction and management strategies.
This program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. WMSB Wanninayake and organized by the Department of Environmental Management.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center, Anuradhapura and other Officials for their support and contribution in making this session both informative and impactful.







Field Visit to Trincomalee Natural Harbour, Dockyard & Tokyo Cement Company (PVT)
Organized by the Department of Environmental Management, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, this academic field visit was conducted on 5th March 2026 under the guidance of Head of the Department, Prof. P. S. K. Rajapakshe, along with Dr. J. M. S. B. Jayasundara, Dr. M. M. S. A. Marasinghe, and Temporary Assistant Lecturer J. K. M. R. Jayasinghe.
The visit provided students with valuable practical exposure to coastal, marine, and industrial environmental management. Students explored the Trincomalee Natural Harbour and Dockyard, gaining insights into port operations, harbour management practices, and marine environmental protection. In addition, the visit to Tokyo Cement offered an opportunity to understand industrial processes and environmental management practices within the cement industry.
This experience effectively bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, enhancing students’ understanding of environmental management in both marine and industrial contexts.

First Aid Training Program – 19th February 2026
The Department of Environmental Management, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, successfully organized a First Aid Training Program on 19th February 2026 as part of the Department’s annual academic activities.
The training session was conducted by experienced resource persons from the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, whose professional guidance and practical demonstrations made the program both informative and engaging.
This program was mainly organized for Year II, Semester II students, Year IV Semester I students of the BA (Hons) in Environmental Management, who are currently following the Disaster Management course coordinated by Dr. W.M.S.B. Wanninayake. In addition, students from several other departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities also participated in the training, creating an opportunity for multidisciplinary learning and knowledge sharing.
The training provided students with essential theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to emergency response, basic life support, and first aid techniques.
The program was held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the active participation of 100 students. Participants were able to gain hands-on experience and improve their confidence in responding to emergency situations.
The Department extends its sincere appreciation to the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Head of the Department of Environmental Management, academic and non-academic staff members, the technical staff of the faculty, the resource persons from the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, and all participating students for their valuable support in making this training program a success.
This initiative reflects the department’s continued commitment to enhancing students’ practical knowledge and preparing them with essential life-saving skills that contribute to disaster preparedness and community resilience.




The webinar on “Indoor Environment and Health” was successfully conducted

Three-Day GIS Training Programme: “Short Course on Geoinformatics Applications for Biodiversity Conservation
The Department of Environmental Management successfully concluded a three-day training programme from 21st to 23rd October 2025 at the GIS/Computer Laboratory, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. This course enhanced the GIS, Remote Sensing (RS), and GPS skills of 35 Development Officers and field officers from the North Central and Northern Provinces.
Key Highlights:
Day 01: Introduction to GIS, Remote Sensing, and ArcGIS software.
Day 02: Field data collection using GPS devices and integration with ArcGIS.
Day 03: Spatial analysis, map production, and report preparation for biodiversity conservation.
This training has equipped participants with the skills to support environmental initiatives in their regions using geospatial technologies.
