Academic Delegation from Tallinn University, Estonia

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, through the Department of Languages, had the honor of hosting a distinguished academic delegation from Tallinn University, Estonia, marking a significant step toward strengthening international academic collaboration in the field of language studies.

The visiting delegation included:

  • Professor Merilyn Meristo, Professor of French and Language Didactics and Head of the Foreign Language Teacher Master’s Programme, School of Humanities, Tallinn University
  • Mrs. Siiri Soidro, Head of Studies, School of Humanities, Tallinn University
  • Dr. Maris Saagpakk, Associate Professor of German Cultural History and Literature, School of Humanities, Tallinn University

The visit aimed to explore avenues for future academic collaboration and to enhance international partnerships between the two institutions.

As part of the academic programme, a comprehensive guest lecture was delivered to students of the Department of Languages, providing valuable insights into contemporary approaches to language education. Additionally, Professor Merilyn Meristo conducted a specialized and interactive workshop for students of French, significantly enriching their practical learning experience and academic engagement.

The delegation also visited the Dr. Deraniyagala Research Museum at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and Mihintale Rock, gaining insights into Sri Lanka’s rich cultural and historical heritage with the support of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Management.
