The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities has been an integral part of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka since its inception in 1995. With a proud history of more than two decades, the faculty has established itself as a hub of knowledge and exploration in social sciences and humanities. Currently, the faculty is housed in a dedicated building near the University Playground, providing a conducive environment for learning and research.
The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities consists of eight departments, each focusing on a specific study area. These departments offer various courses and programs catering to our student’s diverse interests and academic aspirations. Currently, the faculty has a population of approximately 1800, with an intake of 490 students in the most recent academic year.

The objectives of the Bachelor of Arts Degree program and Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Degree programs at Rajarata University of Sri Lanka are as follows;
- To enable graduates to accurately identify and recognize local and international social and cultural potentials. Graduates will develop sound knowledge, skills, and self-confidence to modify and enhance these potentials per societal needs.
- To provide graduates with a well-rounded education that fosters an understanding of the inherent inter-relationship between physical and spiritual needs. This balanced education will broaden their perception and enable them to contribute to the holistic well-being of individuals and society.
- To empower graduates not only to excel in a specific area of artistic creation but also to connect that area with other forms of artistic expression. This objective emphasizes developing interpretation skills, creativity and integrating diverse artistic mediums.
- To produce well-equipped individuals with the necessary knowledge, skills, competencies, attitudes, and social responsibilities. Graduates will be capable of promoting harmony among people and fostering ethical development within society.
- To equip graduates to design and conduct scientific inquiries and experimentation when required. This objective emphasizes developing research skills and applying scientific methods in social sciences and humanities.
- To ensure graduates can apply the principles of sound practice concerning health, safety, human welfare, and the environment within social sciences and humanities-related industries. This objective emphasizes the importance of responsible and sustainable practices in these fields.
- To develop excellent communication and interpersonal skills in graduates. This objective recognizes the importance of effective communication in various professional and personal contexts.
- To provide graduates with employment opportunities that are worthy of the degree they have earned. This objective emphasizes the practical applicability of the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies, enabling graduates to secure meaningful and rewarding careers.
