A delegation from Fukuoka Women’s University, Japan, led by Prof. Padmasiri Jayasena, visited the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka on the 9th of September 2024. The visit marked an important milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the two institutions, fostering greater academic and cultural ties. The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities warmly welcomed the team, and meaningful discussions were held with Prof. EMS. Ekanayake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ven. Prof. Olaganwatte Chandasiri Thero, the Head, Department of Languages, Prof. DMWK Dissanayake and Mrs. PNND Dayarathne, Lecturer in Japanese at the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. The exchange of ideas and insights during their visit is truly appreciated, as it enriches our academic environment and strengthens the bonds between our institutions.
A key highlight of the visit was announcing a scholarship opportunity generously offered by the Japanese team. This scholarship is specifically designated for a selected underprivileged student pursuing Japanese language studies in their degree program. This initiative will undoubtedly have a significant impact, helping to support and uplift our students while further enhancing their educational experiences. The visiting team from Fukuoka Women’s University also had the opportunity to engage with Rajarata University undergraduates studying Japanese. As part of this cultural exchange, the students organized an intercultural program, which included various fun activities, providing a platform for both groups to bond over shared experiences. The Japanese delegation also enjoyed traditional Sri Lankan cuisine, strengthening the friendship and mutual appreciation between the two cultures. The Rajarata University community is enthusiastic about continuing and deepening its collaboration with Fukuoka Women’s University. The successful visit serves as a strong foundation for future academic and cultural exchanges, and we are excited to explore further opportunities for partnership in the coming years. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Prof. Padmasiri Jayasena and the entire team for their invaluable contributions, and we look forward to many more fruitful collaborations in the future.
